Respect

Focus on Individual Seeds

Focus on all 12 Seeds

Use with Spanish Version

Regard, Esteem, Honor

In our relationship with Christ, He deserves the greatest respect, that of worship. In our relationships with others, respect meets the need for significance and is given to every person without them having to earn it. When respect is missing, people are often rude and self-centered. One practical way to show respect is to remember someone’s name.

“Honor one another above yourselves.”
Romans 12:10

Ways to Apply the 12 Seeds

This sheet suggests ways to apply the 12 Seeds personally and with others. It can be used with the seed of Respect as well as the rest of the 12 Seeds.

This introductory page lists some general suggestions for application of the 12 Seeds personally, in your family, in small groups, and in staff or team meetings.

If you are leading, you may want to start with this overview sheet before using the 5 Habits page below.

Respect - 5 Habits

This page includes prayers, thoughts and attitudes, words, actions and discussion questions to help you apply the seed of Respect personally or with others.

One way to use this page is to distribute it as a handout to help stimulate discussion in a small group setting.

Note the discussion section at the bottom of the page.

Youth Exercise Instructions

To be used with the Youth Exercises for the seed of Respect. You’ll find the exercises below.

Youth Exercises for Respect

A series of short exercises to be used with a small group of students. These interactive scenarios can be used to challenge young people to apply the Biblical principles for the 12 Seeds. There are three exercises for each seed with a page of instructions for the mentor/teacher to read first. The situations are age appropriate and bring to mind actual experiences arising in a young person’s life.

LifeSkills for Growth

Lifeskills for Growth journal pages enhance your study of the 12 Seeds book. These 2-page 8.5″ x 11″ sheets include questions to help better understand and apply the seed of Respect. There are also spaces to write about experiences and progress made by dating journal entries. These pages can help to clarify thoughts, track progress and set goals for the future.

Growing in Love

This discussion starter has the seed of Respect as it’s theme, with a brief story related to the seed. It is a half sheet (5.5″ wide by 8.5″ tall) printed on both sides.

This can be used as an ongoing reminder of the seed after a complete study of the 12 Seeds book. Distribute any way you wish: as a bulletin insert, study sheet for a class or discussion group, handout when visiting people, etc. There’s room at the bottom of the second side to add your own notes.

Printing suggestions: Growing in Love comes front and back side-by-side on a full sheet. We recommend printing out on an 8.5″ x 11″ full sheet, then printing the front and back again on the other side of the paper. Split the sheet in two to yield two double-sided half sheets.
